Responsible for concept design, detailed design, construction, commissioning and performance test of the company's first pilot-scale manufacturing plant capable of producing biodegradable microbeads for the cosmetics industry. Responsible for concept design, detailed design and management of construction for the second pilot plant producing millimetre class beads. Ideated and filed the first patent.

Overview: Designed, built and tested heater-related  technology for future personal care and environmental control products - a focus on fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, power control, materials and related high volume manufacturing challenges. Extensive work on High Temperature Co-fired Ceramics technology and ceramic-to-metal brazing. Designed a lab-scale engineering ceramics manufacturing facility. Multiple HTCC related patents.

Title: Propulsion Engineer, Space and Defense Group, In-Space Propulsion Division  


Overview: Designed, built and tested a hypergolic interplanetary spacecraft main engine (LEROS 4) for the European Space Agency's Mars Robotic Exploration Programme - a focus on fluid mechanics, heat transfer, materials, data analysis, and low volume precision manufacturing challenges. Collaborated with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to build and test an advanced ceramic variant. The LEROS 4 gained flight heritage on Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 to the moon in 2025.

Overview: Modelled severe nuclear accident scenarios for a new-build demonstration power plant safety case. Trained at the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, Cadarache France. Designed and implemented an experiment to quantify radioactive contamination in a decommissioned demo plant. Secondment to carry out the experiment at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany.

Group project: Active debris removal mission concept design and mission cost estimate - the first published estimate of cost/kg to remove space junk. Responsible for electric and chemical propulsion orbital mechanics work package.


Extracurricular: IET Innovation Award Finalist 2011, Design/build/test/flight of a Mars-analogue stratospheric microbial sampling experiment incorporating NASA biological contamination control protocols. Two flight campaigns from Esrange Space Centre, Swedish Arctic.


Extracurricular: NASA Science Award. Concurrent engineering study for a human-rated spacecraft and mission design, Universität Stuttgart, Institut für Raumfahrtsysteme (IRS) Germany. Responsible for the manned spacecraft environmental control and life support system design work package.
